Subj: [kl] 2006 International Saxophone Symposium
Date: Fri, 06 Jan 2006 08:08:10 -0500

Doublers in the Washington, D. C. area, take notice: The International
Saxophone Symposium, sponsored by the U. S. Navy Band, starts today at 4
p.m., at George Mason University's Cneter for the Arts in Northern
Virginia. Sorry about posting information so late, but here's the web site
link.

Saturday will be a five-ring circus of workshops, lectures, recitals and
classes taking place simultaneously. Some people bring saxophones and
other people don't. There's a dealer room, but it's not as large or as
active as the dealer rooms at ClarinetFest--mostly, I think, because
there's so much else going on that it's hard to find time to shop.

Last year, I missed this terrific symposium, because I found out the date
after it happened. This year, I noticed a one-liner about it buried in the
Washington Post's events calendar. It was in yesterday's paper, but I
didn't get around to reading that section until this morning. The Navy
keeps mailing me calendars of events, apparently because I've gone to this
one in the past, but the calendars never include *this* event, drat 'em.
I'm going to miss today (previous plans, and Shadow Cat doesn't like to let
me out after dark anyway...), but I'm going to see if I can change plans
and attend tomorrow. If any of you plan to go, please e-mail me and maybe
we'll have a chance to say hello!
