I have made such a stink in the literature about the work, that I
rarely see it performed with contrabassoon any longer.
I was asked on a list for bassoonists why I insisted the double
bass when the work "sounded infinitely better with a
contrabassoon."
Thinking to myself that this man has been delivered to me naked
by his enemies, I said, as sweetly as I could, "Well I think that
the work sounds infinitely better with two tenor saxophones in
place of the two bassoons."
And this shmuck says, "It does not sound infinitely better the
way you suggest. Only the way I suggest."
He has not been seen or heard from since. People who claim to
have a pipeline to the infinite generally don't live long.

I'd like to know who is going to play it as it was written: For
12 wind
instruments and a double bass. Who's up to it?? 8-)
