The entire reason for giving the work the subtitle of "Gran
Partita" is solely because the words appear on the manuscript.
Everyone knows they are not in Mozart's hand, but the conceit
stuck and it is a convenient way to call the work, as opposed the
"Sereande for 13 winds" which is ridiculous on the face of it
since there are only 12 winds in the piece.

So if the conceit is to use an incorrect title simply because it
appears on the autograph, then use the one that exists on the
autograph; i.e., Gran Partitta. Besides, in 1803, when the term
was written on the manuscript in red crayon, there were no
spelling rules about Partitta. It could be spell almost any way
you wanted to. Spelling is a mid to late 19th century
phenomenon.

The GP festival is on Feb. 28.

And yes, I meant the slower the mvoement the greater the
invitation to improvise.
