This is from a sax player who occasionally forays into clarinet. One
of the books in the show Chicago called for baritone sax, bass
clarinet, tenor sax, soprano clarinet and soprano sax. Too bad I
wasn't getting paid a doubler's fee! Intonation on the soprano is
indeed the most difficult of the lot, with regular practice necessary
to maintain a reasonable embouchure. I also find the switch from
soprano sax to flute the most difficult to do quickly. That said,
there are some players like Bob Wilbur who play soprano sax and
clarinet with equal facility.
