Subj: [kl] Sony Walkman MD Recorder

I recently heard a preliminary recording of our concert band that was
done on a Sony Walkman MD recorder using an upgraded mic. The recorder
was 3 - 5 years old. I felt the resulting sound was awesome, as good as
a studio recording. I can' locate the older model in a store.

I am interested in opinions for :
1. Does anyone know if the newer Sony models are as good as the older
models and have the same features as the older ones.
2. Any one had experience with this recorder
3. Are there better brands on the market in the same price range.

4. I would like to use the recorder to record individual parts of
clarinet quartets then combining them all into a quartet. Any one know
how this could be accomplished?
What editing software would I need. It would be nice to be able to
patch pieces of multiple takes to make a perfect composite track. Would
I need a 4 track recorder for this or can it be done with software?
