Can you get to a "Baker's Musical Biographies" in a library? Also, if
he is American, there is something called the Grove Dictionary of
AMERICAN (colloquially called the Amerigrove) music which (at least in
hardcover) was published separately from the large edition. It might
have something. Are you able to contact one of the major
conservatories? They often have other means. Also, you could try RILM
and RISM (see those libraries if you don't know about these) and
possibly ASCAP or BMI (if he's a composer) and see if he is one of
their members.
