I owned an A clarinet like Hendy's when I was in high school - I had bought
it used from someone through my teacher at the time. I didn't keep it very
long - only until I got into college. Those wraparound register keys and the
doughnut holes were abandoned because they caused mechanical problems that
turned out to be greater than the ones they were meant to solve. In addition
instrument design has seen many advances over the past 100+ years. Hendy, if
the clarinet meets your needs (response and intonation), keep it and use it
without guilt. It is, even in excellent condition, unlikely to be any better
than a "run of the mill" modern professional level instrument.
