In fact, several times the band asked the audience to dance with them
(in the aisles), and perhaps 25% of the audience did.

There were (I believe) a few genuine citizens from that part of the
world in the audience, including the couple next to me who spoke
Bulgarian (I suppose?) to each other; but most of them were college kids
who faked it.

The program said that this particular band spent time in forced labor
camps during the 70's and 80's because they insisted on playing "wedding
music" in defiance of the socialist government edicts, then they
disbanded, and just now they are getting back together again for a U.S.
tour.

Programs exaggerate sometimes, but it added some color to the
performance.

Another amusing touch was that the clarinetist had pot belly of
unusually large proportions. He didn't dance much himself, but his
hints of dance made all of us chuckle.

In rereading my post, I notice that I said nothing about the
accordionist. He was as deft and as theatrical as the others.
