Subj: [kl] Need to purchase a Laptop Notebook that has an input for recording
Date: Fri, 11 Nov 2005 14:02:10 -0500

Many of the kids in my school district are much more knowledgeable and
confident using their computers than I am. In fact, some of them have
their own laptops.
Does anybody on the list have any recommendations for a particular
model of a laptop that they can use to "record" themselves? Now-a-days
they have to go into the bandroom and make casset recordings of their
"auditions" for Honor Band and All City Band. They usually flub these
recordings made in the band room. I think they could all benefit from
learning to record themselves on their own laptops at home. Many of them
are already using Smart Music. To be quite honest, I don't even own a
laptop and would like to have one for myself.
I can remember a few years ago when the high school and Jr. high
students had to prepare entire sections of Rose Etudes for these
competitions. I used to have one of my high school students help me make
CD recordings of myself on his home PC where I would record the Rose
excerpt at 3 different tempos and have him burn copies of the CD for
other students to use with practicing.
I currently have a burning desire to purchase the "right" laptop for
myself so that I can get used to it and teach them how to use their own.
Does anybody have any recommendations for brands and models? SONY does
have a new laptop, the VAIO series, but it doesn't seem to have
recording capabilities. I want a laptop because I need portability.
ANNIE
