I was about to fire off a tetchy email to the effect that an auditor is
someone who audits accounts, only to find that my dictionary defines it
as "a hearer" first, so I suppose the above usage is correct. However,
I've never heard the word used like this before, is it common in the
USA?

I hope the masterclass goes well, a bit too far for me to come,
unfortunately.
