Apologies if anyone finds it offensive. I thought it was an appropriate
word to describe the attitudes of the people I was referring to... I
tend to find swearwords offensive or non-offensive depending on context,
but I appreciate that not everyone feels the same.

You may be right about the planets thing but I was just replying to
Bill's comment that he likes the company of women. I wasn't meaning a
general comment about orchestras, just about some of the male members of
the species. N.B. my referring to them as "male members" can be taken
as a euphemism for another word I would like to use if I wasn't
abstaining from profanity. ;-)
