The last time I did "Symphonic Dances from West Side Story", I used a
Vandoren A35 m/p. It's basically a larger tip opening classical piece. It's
got a round chamber, flat baffle. The tip is .080", so there's a bit more
leeway for pitch flexibility, and I find I can get a nice balance between
control and the bigger sound I like for that work.

There's no reason in the world not to play that on a C* (assuming it's a
good one.)

My one helpful hint for that piece is to play the first solo entry (a slur
from third space C# to the C# an octave above) by fingering it:

OK oox|ooo , then merely removing the LH third finger to make the slur
upwards. Much neater that way.
