Read that article; what a sad state of affairs. I
wonder if ballet is more pre-disposed to going to tape
as I have the vague feeling I heard that that is how
the dancers rehearse, and may actually prefer to
perform to an unchanging pre-recorded performance
where the pauses are always exactly the same length
etc.

Although opera rehearses to piano, I can't imagine a
big company doing away with the pit. Different
culture?
