Rien, I agree there are several different questions issues here, and
it's important to distinguish between them.

Otherwise, it would be like arguing that Bush is a poor president
because he likes chocolate ice cream, and you don't like mocha coffee
which contains chocolate, and therefore Bush must be a poor president.

Competitions, for example, are designed to test certain aspects of
performance. It makes sense to exclude certain forms of music that
aren't relevant to the aspect being tested. But this doesn't mean that
the excluded form is "bad music". This means only that it obscures
whichever aspect(s) of music that the competition is designed to test.

Some (not all) electronic music can be 'performed' merely by pressing
the power switch on a computer and then clicking on an icon. In this
situation, 'performance' is almost a meaningless word, but.....

Some person did choose the sounds and did specify the
hardware/software/settings. What's _most_ important, if the sounds
deliver aural pleasure and if the sounds generally resemble or suggest
the sounds of acoustic instruments, then they are 'music'. Except in
the weirdest cases, to say that such sounds aren't 'music' is not
reasonable --- even if they result in acoustic musicians becoming
unemployed.

And, there is plenty of electronic music that _is_ performed in the
normal sense of the word wherein, if the performer makes a mistake, the
result sounds awful the audience jeers, and if the performer has a
moment of brilliant improvisational inspiration, the result is
thrilling.

As=A0I've already posted, what angered me last night (although 24 hours
later, I feel more 'peeved' than 'angry')..... what peeved me about
last night was the deceptive nature of it all. The same as lip
synching. The sound may be enjoyable (until the electric circuit
fails), and the alleged 'performer' may dance well, but the
'performance' is still fake, at least in part.

....sorry to get on a soapbox, the film industry couldn't survive
without such things; but last night aggravated me more than I realized.
A=A0sense of betrayal, I suppose.
