I know of a Los Angeles player that used to do a lot of studio work
(cartoons, movies, commercials, TV scores, etc), fit in weekly
rehearsals and tapings for a band whose name was a household word for 25
years, fly out to do weekend shows, do an occasional rehearsal band and
still insisted he do 2 hours of home practice each day if possible just
to be sure he didn't loose any fingering patterns. He divided the
practice time among mostly clarinet, sax and flute.

There are probably a lot of "endurance champions" out there that play
all day and night and still practice to avoid that one embarrasing
moment that could get you off someones roster. Studio time doesn't allow
time for re-takes because someone plays wrong notes. Get it right the
first time or they get someone else.
