Subj: [kl] WBCC weekend: record trial successful

The World Bass Clarinet Federation organised the World Bass Clarinet
Conference this weekend. It was a beautiful weekend, starting Friday
morning, and being finished tonight at 8 o'clock

One of the aims of the organisers was to be mentioned in the Guinness book
of records because of having assembled the largest (bass?) clarinet choir
ever. To achieve this 100 players would be enough. When the participants
were counted they were 148!

Congratulations to all the participants (including me). But even if the
record had not been broken: it was great fun to play with so many
claribasses the Eulogy for Horatio Nelson, composed by Paul Harvey! You can
hardly imagine the sound of so many claribasses (and a few counter basses!)
Beautiful, beautiful! And Paul Harveys composition (12 parts) was also very
nice, although it will not survive eternity, I think.

Such a weekend is very exhausting, at least the way I live through it, but
maybe I'll give you a more detailed report tomorrow or tuesday.

Rien
