That may be an old wive's tale. There is limited evidence to
support the statement that clarinets become worn out through
excessive playing. People say that this is true, but be
skeptical. I owned a C clarinet made by Buffet in 1890. I don't
know how frequently it was played before I got it, but I used it
a lot, and then sold it to a fine player. I had a B-flat made
ca. 1935 and only sold it recently to a Japanese player.

As a general rule, be skeptical about what you with respect to
clarinets and the reasons underlying their deterioration.

The wive's tale to me is denying that Clarinets can "blow out".........
The bore in a Clarinet can and often does warp over time. That can be from a
result of a number of factors, but it can and does happen.
Also the keywork can need extensive work over time as it can get very, very
loose and worn.
