I suspect the earlier comment about an "octave Bb" being even smaller,
might be the answer to this.

Mind you, the Cambridge Companion to the Clarinet makes reference to the
possibility of an "octave C" clarinet, one octave above the conventional
C clarinet .... ! Though it is not certain that any such instrument
ever existed other than as a figment of someone's imagination. Does
anyone have any further info on this?

By contrast, the Ab and G sopraninos have extensive repertoire, though
mainly from the 19th century...
