Frank,
It sounds like you're suffering from palatal air leak.
There was an article about this in The Clarinet in the last few years.
You could find what issue it appeared in by doing a title search on the
International Clarinet Assoc. website.

Subject: [kl] Schnauzz problems
Hi everyone. It's been awhile since I've been here. I went back to
school (as a non-traditional ... meaning old) student and got a MusEd.
degree. Which means I neglected playing for awhile. Which means I'm
trying to recover my chops and am coming up with problems I've never
had before. The most noticeable and irritating problem is a nasal sound
I am producing due to the air pressure I create. It sounds like... a
reverse snore. If I could control it I'd play duets w/ myself. But I
digress... I am making a cd later next year and I'd like to get rid of
my "accompanist" before a mic is too close to me.
Is this a problem that can be remedied by practicing on a consistent
basis? Or is it a sign of other problems? I am 40 and, as we all know,
things just start happening at 40! It could also be due to the several
sinus infections I had when I was a student, or the smoking I used to
"enjoy" but is no longer a factor. Any suggestions, insights, or
humorous anecdotes would be helpful.
TIA,
Frank Garcia
PS sorry if I misspelled "schnauzz"
