Have you determined the pitch of the note that comes out when you
finger a C? Without something more specific, it sounds as if you
have a "LOW PITCH" B-flat clarinet, but the identification of the
pitch of the clarinet is not possible without you condirming what
note comes out when you play a C. You'll have to find an in tune
piano to answer that question.

Subject: [kl] Pruefer Clarinet

I wonder if someone might tell me more about a clarinet a friend
of
mine has given me. She seems to think that it's a C clarinet,
but, when
a barrel and mouthpiece are added from my Bb clarinet, sounds
just like
my Bb.

It's a one-piece plastic/ebonite model, stamped with "G.
PRUEFER -MFR-
PROV. R.I." and possibly "LP" and "B" below that. The serial
number
appears to be 1310. The bell isn't the original (it doesn't even
fit
very well) and there is no mouthpiece or barrel.

It has a wrap-around octave key, an alternate left-hand key for
the low
G#/Ab, and includes a low Eb.

When might this have been manufactured? Is it indeed a Bb model?
Is
there any collector value? And is it worth refurbishing?

Best regards,
Don Morris
