A free association on how things have evolved..... I recall reading
Joan Didion's comments on LA and its mind-set after the Manson murder
spree back in August 1969. Basically it was nobody was surprised
SOMEthing happened, just the specifics. "It's an LA thing, you wouldn't
understand"? A place primed for weirdness and sometimes much worse. I
have read (somewhere?) the Nigerian scammers--living in Lagos, LA, or
the Bronx--will sometimes get sort of physical if they think you have
what they want.

Imagine what someone with Charlie Manson's mentality could have done
with a computer. Then again, don't....
