American Heritage dictionary says that "pinkje" is the Dutch diminutive
for their now-obsolete word "pin(c)k" meaning little finger.

I don't know whether the "(c)" indicates that "pinck" is an alternate
obsolete spelling, or perhaps "pinc".

Rien lives in the Netherlands, perhaps he knows a bit more about this?
