ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION

Assistant/Associate Professor of Clarinet

School of Music
Ball State University
Muncie, Indiana

The Ball State School of Music invites applications and nominations
for a full-time, tenure-track appointment (Beginning August 16,
2006) to teach graduate and undergraduate applied clarinet and to
perform with the Musical Arts Quintet. The successful candidate is
expected to maintain a national profile, recruit and maintain a
strong clarinet studio, to be a contributing member of the faculty
quintet, and to assist in job and graduate school placement,
curricular development, and faculty governance. Additional
performance opportunities may be available locally and regionally.

Rank: Assistant/Associate Professor

Salary: Commensurate with experience and education

Minimum Qualifications: Completed Masters Degree in music, a record
of successful college teaching, and a strong performance history.

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to recruit and retain
quality students on the college level, exceptional performance and
scholarly background, completed doctorate, experience in coaching
chamber music and/or teaching clarinet repertoire and pedagogy.

written within the past two years, a short list of additional
references who may be contacted, a CD of performances from within the
past two years, student evaluations if available, and a certified
transcript copy of the highest degree earned. Samples of scholarly
publications and other supporting materials may be included with the

Formal review of applications begins on November 21, 2005 and will
continue until the position is filled. Ball State University is an
institution of 18,000 students located approximately 65 miles
northeast of Indianapolis and is within driving distance from
Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis, and Cincinnati. The School of Music
offers Bachelors, Masters, Artist Diploma, and doctoral level degrees
and has an enrollment of approximately 500 undergraduate and 100
graduate students. A city of 70,000 residents, Muncie offers a
vibrant downtown, cultural and historical sites, and many
recreational amenities.
