Subj: [kl] Copeland's Hoedown..... Help!
Date: Tue, 13 Sep 2005 18:34:35 -0400

List,
Our community orchestra is playing Copeland's
"Hoe-Down" this coming weekend, and to be honest, I
can not play all those notes. It is, of course, based
on a fast fiddle tune in D, and the Bb clarinet part
is in E. If I play it on an A clarinet, on which the
tune lies much easier, I can get many more of the
notes. The Principal is not averse to using the A
either, though he's good, and will probably do ok
enough on the Bb.
I find that I can transpose pretty well (actually the
tune is so repetitive that it is more a matter of
memorizing it), but for security I'd like a printed
transposition to read from. Can anyone help me with
this; has someone done this transposition for the 1st
and 2nd clarinet parts in a form that you could email
me? Thanks a million in advance!

I completely understand that this is an amateurish
situation to be in. Oh well; I just want the
orchestra to sound as good as possible. :)

PS I'll use this space to advertise. My orchestra is
the Tehachapi Community Orchestra, and I'm really
pleased to get to play with them. This Sunday we will
play the World Premier of Richard Greene's "What if
Mozart played with Bill Monroe" for Bluegrass Violin
and Orchestra. This is a fun piece and Richard Greene
is a great Fiddler! He HAS played with Bill Monroe.
