Bart Rogers asked:
<<<Can anyone recommend an custom Eb mouthpiece that uses cut down Bb reeds?
and experiences with others?>>>
I've never played an Eb mouthpiece - Hite included - that didn't play better
with cut-down Bb reeds than it did with the traditional Eb cut.
The three custom models I own - Greg Smith's, Dan Johnston's and Roger
Garrett's - are all designed to use shortened Bb reeds. All three are
excellent mouthpieces. A Chadash barrel helped the tuning and response on
my standard Buffet R13 as well.
There's a lot in the archives on learning Eb, some written by me and more
written by better writers than I am. My first suggestion would be to
purchase Peter Hadcock's Eb excerpt book - not just for the excerpts, but
the text as well as the truly excellent fingering chart.
Good luck,
kjf
