Berlin airlift? Never heard of such a thing. Whom would they have lifted?
Did anybody -- magic carpet -- rescue the Jews (like my grandfather, btw.)
from the Nazi capital?
Or are you thinking of Dunkerque? Anyway, sure enough, the allied forces
carried out quite a few stunning logistical operations in WW II, but that's
long passé.
There is no doubt that had the Bush administration not misplaced the
national guard and the resources, had they not weakened the Fema and
confused the responsibilities, had they not ignored the studies pointing out
the vulnerability of New Orleans but cut the funds instead, or even if this
disgusting "President", rather than being flown OVER the disaster area had
taken initiative early-on, much could have been done better. Or is there?
Lives and cultural treasures could have been saved!
Interestingly, I think there is even a clarinet-issue involved: New Orleans
was the hub of French and Caribbean clarinet playing in America. Had a
previous Government neglected it and it had been devastated in, say, 1890,
Jazz clarinets would probably still sound like Ted Lewis or Wilton Crawley
or the like. I don't see a "race" issue here as much as a cultural one: The
present government-racket couldn't care less for the French-Latin-African,
liberal-melting pot down South, that's the point. Remember the infamous
invective of Jeb Bush against Frisco?
Best,
danyel
