<<<I spent two years in England about 25 years ago and British pizza was
not to be recommended at that time. One of the optional ingredients was
"loose corn".>>>

At Harlaxton College near Grantham, Lincolnshire, the British campus of
the University of Evansville, they resisted serving pizza in the dining
room for a very long time. When they finally responded to the desires
of the American students for pizza, it took an equally long time to
convince the ladies who prepared the food that peas and carrots were not
desirable toppings for it!

In fairness, I have to say that I have found in six or seven trips to
England over the past 25 years the food there has gotten much better.
In fact, the food is excellent in many places, if you know how to find
it.

I'm please to report that in my experience, the old truism no longer
applies: It used to be that the difference between an expensive English
restaurant and a cheap one was that in an expensive restaurant you paid
a lot more for the same tasteless food.
