I spent two years in England about 25 years ago and British pizza was not to be recommended at that time. One of the optional ingredients was "loose corn". I suppose this really could be appreciated over the imagined alternative of corn on the cob , but it didn't strike me as a traditional pizza topping. I should add that this was well before the advent of veggie and fruit pizzas, at least where I lived in NY state - I can't speak for California.
