You're *still* missing the point.

Of *course* there is necessarily something of each musician in every
musical event. It couldn't be otherwise. But this isn't the same as
"putting yourself" into the performance.

Even those performers who you think aren't giving anything of themselves
are. It's just that the parts of themselves that are being displayed
aren't supporting the music. Whereas in a great performance, they are.

But you don't have to *put* yourself there, you're *already* there. You
just have to *find* the parts of yourself that allow the music to be
expressed in the best ways.

That's a completely different process from *putting*, which is a
dictatorial approach that tends to emphasise your own desired
self-image, as opposed to *discovering*, which is a much more flexible
approach that puts the music's needs first.
