It seems to me that the only thing I can add is that the tone of a statement
has a lot to do how people respond.

If one attacks the person (such as by calling someone an idiot), one gets
the strongest response. Few of us are willing to accept such a
characterization.

If one attacks a particular aspect of a person (such as by characterizing
something they wrote as gobbledegoop), the reaction is to that particular
instance. Few of us can maintain that we've never made a mistake or done
something idiotic (as I may be doing by writing this).

We have seen strong responses to both of the above types of attacks (i.e. a
counterattack). Avoiding either of these types of attacks generally leads
to more productive discussions. I learn a lot by hearing the ideas of
others (that's why most of us are here) - and I'm a lot more receptive to
hearing them if I don't feel attacked at the same time.

So yes, I want to see the opinions and experiences. I hope I've offered
some ways to make them work better.
