Tony --- and this is a straight forward reply, no attempt at wit --- I
am distressed that your original post, which *did* open my mind to new
thoughts about printed text, somehow turned into a flame war amongst a
small segment of the Klarinet population (4 people out of nearly 1000, I
think).
I find it difficult to comprehend this hurling of insults by the 3 or 4
people involved. As a number of us have done, I once enjoyed a dinner
with you and other musicians, I listened to you (and to the others), and
I voiced my own thoughts without the conversation falling apart this
way. I've subscribed to Klarinet for some time now, and I recognize
the references to previous conversations. I want to chalk it up to the
ill effects of "text without body language attached". I hope that all
those involved can put the hard words aside --- in the same spirit as my
wife did when I told her I didn't like her new dress.
I wish this flame war hadn't happened. I wish that everyone who was
involved would put it all aside now and would talk about music instead
--- such as your original post about composers as teachers was doing.
There's my honest answer.
Regards,
Bill
