That is a bit of a generalization, but probably just as often as not, the
Author retains copyright. If a publisher posts without the author's
permission, this can be a breech of contract and copyright infringement.
The wholesale copying of these books is something that is a pandora's box
that we should exercise caution in opening.

Another way to think of it- as music.... Is it ok if your musical work is
placed on the internet so that you can download samples, but an easy hack of
the system allows for entire works to be downloaded. Same situation and
there are numerous lawsuits about illegal music downloads right now.
