This incident, as well as many others, is inaccurately depicted in the
movie, "The Glenn Movie Story." In the movie version, Miller decides to
write the lead trumpet parts for the clarinet after a lip-splitting
incident occurred to the lead trumpet player. But, when the band plays
their new arrangements (Miller had completed a re-writing of the band's
entire library in only one night!), the clarinet is clearly the lead
over the saxophones, not the brass.
