...but since Kevin's wife didn't hear the differences, and since Kevin
used the verb "_felt_", perhaps it's more believable that Kevin may've
subconsciously remembered details about the "feel", such as resistance
or embouchure, required to produce the same pitch/timbre with each
instrument?

When comparing mouthpieces and so forth, I've caught myself deciding at
first that two of them were equivalent, and then I realized that I was
working (subconsciously) to make them sound the same to my ear.
Presumably such subconscious efforts can be remembered as easily as a
sound can be remembered?
