Here's a pleasant read: "The Mastery of Music" by
Barry Green. Barry Green also coauthored "The Inner
Game of Music". Some chapter titles are:
"Courage-French Horn and Percussion, Discipline-Flute,
Oboe, Clarinet, and Bassoon, Tolerance-Violas,
Fun-Trombone and Double Bass. Green talks about the
useful traits of musicians and categorizes them by the
type of instruments that musicians play. I don't
think he takes his categories really seriously, but he
tells good stories about a lot of different artists
and I enjoyed the book. Green is a Double Bass
soloist and has played for some years with the
Cincinnati Symphony.
