This is not a "vented barrel", rather an extension that is place between
the bell and the lower joint of the Eb clarinet. The "vent" is in truth a
tone hole for long B natural and low E. Because B natural is now produced
from a properly placed tone hole the sound from the throat tones to the long
tube notes is much more homogenous.

Also, the added length to the overall bore of the clarinet dampens some
of the extreme upper overtones and produces a much more even sound through
out all registers. The only draw back is that the lowest E is not quite as
resonant, but in general most Eb parts are not written to show off the low
end of the clarinet! I am so hooked on this that I can't play Eb without it!

I do also make an Eb barrel from solid African Blackwood. These are
ringless, like my A and Bb barrels and come in 40mm - 43mm.
