I watched an episode of Mr. Rogers the other day with my daughter, and
Fred took out a clarinet and played it. Well, he played a little
scale, and it was clearly the sound of an amateur, so I guess he was
still learning.

And then he pulled out a real curiosity. It was some sort of
recorder-like thing with a piece of player piano roll around the
barrel. It had a mouthpiece, and a crank. The crank would turn the
music over some holes. When he blowed in the mouthpiece, and turned
the crank, it sounded like a bad pennywhistle playing some tune. It
didn't sound great, but it was one of the weirdest things I'd ever
seen.
