I would like to add that the best performers I've known believed in their
ability to play beyond the limitations of their equipment. I read a story
once of a clarinet player who picked up a student quality instrument while
on a factory tour and told the workers he would perform that evening in the
symphony with their clarinet. He did...and many of them came and reported it
was a brilliant performance.
