Subj: FW: [kl] Ah, ligatures....Gold vs. Silver

Let me modify my statement below. If you have something on your
instrument because you think it makes the toute ensemble look
classy, attractive, beautiful, etc., then maybe that feeling
might permit you to play better, though the object itself is
unlikely to add any value at all outside of the thing that it was
designed to do.

I used that have my nails manicured before a big concert becaust
I thought that it made my hands be placed more carefully. It was
probably a lot of crap, but I thought so and maybe it did make
some positive difference.

It is perfrectly reasonable to use any physical aspect of the
clarinet (such as the ligature, for example) because you like how
it looks, I have golden keys on my basset horn. I'm crazy about
the new barrels and bells and I would not mind putting diamonds
in my bell ring. But when one begins thinking that this sort of
thing has some positive impact on one's playing, that is the time
to inspect the head for holes.
