I'm guilty once again of language that is too concise. I was
discussing _Irish_ folk music, not folk music in general.
...and I was wondering and speculating: "Why were single reeds a
mainstay in many areas of the earlier music world, but not in Ireland
when Irish traditions were formed? Is the reason musical, or something
else?" (although, in a way, an accordion is a single reed instrument,
isn't it?)
This thread began with Michelle's query in anticipation of a doctoral
thesis, and I think that it would be an interesting topic if it
interests her and her advisor --- which it may not, of course.
