But single reeds (taragato/clarinet and I believe some earlier instruments)
are/were used in the greater Balkan area (to include Greece and Turkey) in
traditional music. The clarinet is also used in Klezmer music which I
believed originated in the northern part of the Balkans (Rumania) and
further north.
