I'm looking for are any sort of pieces that were
originally written for two clarinets (both Bbs, though if there's
anything with Eb out there I'd love to know too) and an accompaniment
(orchestra, piano, etc.). I'm not looking for unaccompanied duets (
i.e. the Poulenc), just those pieces that were written with
accompaniment. If anyone knows of any such pieces, I would greatly
appreciate being let know about them!

Dear Michelle

There is a vast literature for two clarinets, either accompanied or
unaccompanied. It has already been mentioned on this list, I believe,
Krommer wrote two concertoes for two clarinets and symphony orchestra. these
are not very difficult, but if you are relatively new to the instrument:
forget about them. If you can play the Poulenc, you can try these two.

Beautiful works for clarinet and basset horn -- Bill Ormondtoby (is that his
real name? I cann't believe it) already mentioned these -- are the opus 113
and 114 "Zwei Concertstücke für Klarinet, Bassethorn und Piano" (Two concert
pieces for cl. B-flat, bassethorn and piano) by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.
There are some very good transcriptions in which the bassethorn has been
replaced by a second B-flat clarinet. Technically they are not very
demanding, but both, especially the opus 113, have the risk in them you will
play them in a very sentimental mood. But they are not (repeat: NOT) tear
jerkers. If you play them that way you make a mistake (at least, that is my
opinion).

There are other works for the combination you desire. If it is important to
you to have an eefer in the trio: ask Paolo de Gaspari. Paolo is essentially
bass clarinettist, but I know he has some pieces for B-flat and eefer
available, don't know whether all are without piano, or some are with,
however (his wife prefers to play he eefer too).

I think I can give you more references, but I don't have these handy, and
don't know which of these are or are not accompanied.

Ciao

Rien
