The Principal clarinetist of the SF Opera is Carey Bell. I have had the
great pleasure of playing with him many times over the last few years. most
recently as 2nd clarinet in the SF Opera production of "Queen of Spades"
this summer. He won the job in 2001? and came from Syracuse where he had
been principal for several years. He came here at the ripe old age of 26!
Carey has also been playing principal clarinet in the SF Ballet for the last
season.

Carey is one of the most natural clarinetists I have ever heard and an
extremely talented musician. I understand that he is also a fairly
accomplished pianist and composer.
