All,

Thanks for the many fine suggestions as to literature and exercises. I
believe it was Anne who used the phrase "great fun". And such it will be.

There is no reason why the altissimo should scare the cats and critters in
the neighborhood. It just needs the attention to rending the sound as any
other range does.

In my edition of the Kroepesch (Bellison), forte is generally indicated for
any passage ascending to the altissimo. However, I have many recordings on
which the clarinetist hits the note perfectly in tune, perfectly rendered
and pianissimo. That's what I want to attain.

Going on vacation in a few days, so I'll work on it some before I go. I will
be taking a horn with me, but won't do such studies in the hotel. (Egads,
Martha! What IS that screech?!)

Thanks to all for offering direction.

Best wishes,
--Vann Joe
