Dear list,

I'm currently editing a set of 3 trios for clarinet, horn & bassoon (Op. 1) by the French horn player Frédéric Duvernoy (1765-1838). I have come across the unusual expression marking “Fr”. It happens not only once but a few times throughout all the parts and is not confused with “rinf” (rinforzando) which also appears in the edition, published in Paris circa 1800. The notation appears to be a dynamic or accent marking and happens between sections of P (piano) and F (forte) so I'm tempted to believe it might be a marking close to “mf” but I would like to know exactly what it stands for. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas I would greatly welcome them. Thank you in advance for your help.

Regards,

Marc Cerri
