I don't know if anybody would consider this idea a "legitimate"
altissimo study, but it works for me and my students. I have them play
"Lean on me" in all keys, starting on G directly above the staff.
Playing beautifully in the altissimo range takes a lot of hard work, and
playing "Lean on me" in those high keys puts a bit of humor into the
process. Nomatter what "book" a person selects to work on the altissimo
range, it still takes a lot of hard work. I prefer to play a simple
tune, over and over, in all keys, slowly. Students love it too, and when
we play together these little ditties, sometimes we both start laughing.
