feelings, I reply:

Nobody has the time or resources to challenge every statement by every
authority. Some statements are best taken on faith if you don't want
to move forwards.

As a ridiculous example, if I were a new student, and you showed me how
to finger low E on my Bb, would you recommend that I interrogate you as
to why and how you are so sure?

(this is quite different, of course, from saying that no authority
should be ever be questioned)
