Margaret,

Thanks for the thoughtful response. 'Tis summer and the list is rather slow
these days.

I guess on your questions regarding whether the instruments are "unmatched",
well yes they are. The A is a full-Boehm Prestige, and the difference in
altissimo fingerings is therefore rather great (as is of course the
resistance of the instrument itself).

I'd rate my ability level somewhere between intermediate and advanced. I had
been offered a scholarship to Eastman as a teen, but was persuaded by
parents not to pursue a career in music. I'm now 57, and back in November
resumed serious study of clarinet. I practise 3 to 4 hours a day, and
really, really want to find a good teacher, but with the foundation I had,
have been able to make excellent progress.

Because of the unmatched nature with the A, and based on your suggestion of
an hour a day on the sopranino Eb, I think it best to also spend 1 hour on
the A as well.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Margaret.

Best wishes,
--Joe
