Brilhart "Enduro" reeds, made of a white plastic, would have been available
at that time. I just (today!) picked up an old Conn 10M tenor that had
several of them in the case. I have not attempted to play them yet, but,
properly cleaned, I don't see why I couldn't. Although I have had some
success with Legeres for clarinet and I have one good Fibracell for alto
sax, for me anyway, neither a Fibracell nor a Bari seem to sound like
anything but a piece of plastic flapping in the breeze on a tenor.
