I always figured it was the excessive pressure that built up in oboists'
heads from trying to blow air through that itty-bitty hole that caused them
to be the way they are. :-) Sort of the same thing that happens to people
in Boston -- the extra gravitational force they are subjected to because
they live at the "Hub of the Universe" has strange and unpredictable
effects on them. (Really! Do you know anybody from Boston, or even whose
FAMILY is from Boston, who is not just a trifle off-kilter? They can be
very nice even, but in my experience (including a son-in-law) they are
always just a bit weird.)
